I love his expression! 
As far as no reference, It's a world above and beyond what I can draw when it comes to horses. The only thing that really looks off to me is his front two hooves. and the way they're bent so much. I know horses have a slight bend.. (I'm not really sure what that joint is called.. lets go to human anatomy.. ankles...?) But it's not as drastic. All in all. I really like him though.
